Survey Target Audience Research

We sent a survey out to people to ask them what they would expect and want to see in a horror film. Below is the print screen from the survey questions we sent to people, and above is the conclusion from the results we recieved. The questionnaire was sent to 40 people overall, 10 male teachers , 10 female teachers, 10 male students ranging from ages 11-16 and 10 female students also ranging from 11-16.

The pie chart below shows the ages of the people who we recieved responses from.

The bar chart below shows what influences people to watch horror films.

The pie chart below shows that the majority of people that responded to our survey would prefer to watch horor in groups instead of alone.

The bar chart below shows what the people who responded to our survey would expect to happen in the first two minutes of a horror film.

The bar chart below shows what sub genre people prefer

The next pie chart shows that people would rather watch a one off horror film rather than a film which is part of a sequel

This pie chart below shows that it is more popular to watch a horror film in the evening rather than in the day

The next bar chart shows whether friends influence whether the people who responded to our survey would watch a horror film or not

Amazon Target Audience Research

As part of the target audience feedback we did research on amazon. We looked at what films people buy and what other films they are interested in.
When we searched Night of the Living Dead it showed us what other films the customers buy after they have viewed that item. We found out that customers who brought Night of the Living dead also purchased other films from the 'Living Dead' series. These included Day of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead.

We then looked at 28 Weeks Later, it was shown that customers who brought this films also brought the other film in the two part series, 28 Days Later. It was also shown that customers brought Dawn of the Dead, this shows that the same audience enjoys to watch this genre of horror films.

Imdb Target Audience Research

From research on Imdb I took a popular list of someones top 10 favourite horror and have looked at what age certificate has been given to the film by BBFC. I did this to help find out what age ranges watch horror films, and what ones are most popular.

1. The Shining
BBFC - 15

2. Identity
BBFC - 15

3. Drag Me To Hell
BBFC - 15

4. Insidious
BBFC - 15

5. Scream
BBFC - 18

6. 1408
BBFC - 15

7. The Sixth Sense
BBFC - 15

8. Saw
BBFC - 18

 9. Vacancy
BBFC - 15

10. 30 Days Of Night
BBFC - 15

Here I have found out the BBFC rating for all of these films, most of the have a age rating of 15. this shows that the more popular films are aimed at people who are fifteen years or older. I researched what things are allowed to be shown in films with a BBFC of 15. Films that have this certificate may contain violence, strong language, references to sex, sexual nudity, discriminatory language or behaviour and drug taking.
Films with a BBFC 18 are still popular, however they are not as popular as 15's this could suggest that viewers prefer to watch films with less strong violence.

RESEARCH: Conclusions

Below is a PowerPoint to show the conclusions I found when I deconstructed four horror films.
